What to weigh
- The Avenida Brasil slope has given way before: after heavy rain the previous summer, the city built a R$ 2.6 million retaining work there in 2016, with soil nailing, shotcrete and drainage (Prefeitura de Ilhabela). In 2018 retaining walls were being built in the neighbourhood (Prefeitura de Ilhabela), and in January 2021 new retaining work resumed after Civil Defence found a risk of collapse (Prefeitura de Ilhabela). - After the heavy rain of February 2021, Ilhote was among the neighbourhoods with limited water, and homes without a water tank were warned they could run dry (Prefeitura de Ilhabela); in February 2023 there was still no forecast for Sabesp water to return for residents from Ilhote to Veloso (Prefeitura de Ilhabela). A water tank is worth having.
