- The beach is about 60 metres long, with fishermen's houses on the waterfront and a pier. The clear water, with up to ten metres of visibility, draws people for diving, canoeing and stand-up paddle, and turtles are a common sight (Turismo Ilhabela).
- The Capela de Santo Antônio is seen as one of the symbols of the south's traditional religious life (Prefeitura de Ilhabela), and the community holds the traditional Festa de Santo Antônio on the beach, a parish fair with live music: in 2026 it ran on 5 and 6 June (Prefeitura de Ilhabela).
- The neighbourhood has two full-day municipal schools: a primary school (years 1 to 5) on Rua das Araras and a nursery and pre-school on Avenida Riachuelo (Prefeitura de Ilhabela).

- Cetesb, the state environmental agency, has rated Praia do Portinho unfit for swimming more than once: in January 2016 it was the only beach in Ilhabela in poor condition (São Paulo state, Semil), and it was back on the unfit list in January 2025 and in December 2025. - Rain and sea have caused trouble: the Campo do Portinho, on Rua Helena Alves de Carvalho, was hit by the heavy rain of February 2023, and Civil Defence ran a flood evacuation drill there in November 2024 (Prefeitura de Ilhabela). A swell broke planks on the pier in July 2025, and in May 2026 the pier was closed until repaired.
- Part of the neighbourhood is a land-regularisation area: in 2022, residents of the Portinho núcleo received 38 property titles (Prefeitura de Ilhabela). Some streets climb the hill: Rua Lourdes Peixoto do Nascimento was a dirt road, hard going in the rain, until it was paved in November 2025 (Prefeitura de Ilhabela).
