What makes it special

The rocks at the right-hand end of the beach ring like a bell when struck, and the name Garapocaia comes from Tupi and means “the stone that sings” (Prefeitura de Ilhabela). Municipal Law 1,260/2018 declared the “Pedras dos Sinos” a historical, cultural and tourist heritage site of Ilhabela (Diário Oficial de Ilhabela, ed. 468/2018).
The beach has public and private parking, kiosks, a restaurant, showers and a children's playground, and the calm, clear water suits water sports, with equipment for hire (Prefeitura de Ilhabela). It has 274 metres of sand, a stream and plenty of coconut palms (Turismo Ilhabela).
It is one of six beaches in the city with a free amphibious wheelchair for people with reduced mobility, in the summer of 2026 (Prefeitura de Ilhabela).
The UBS Costa Norte health centre, opened in 2022 at Avenida Perimetral Norte 4080 in Ponta Azeda, serves Armação and other northern neighbourhoods (Prefeitura de Ilhabela).
Pedra do Sino is among the neighbourhoods to be served by the Sabesp desalination plant announced in June 2026, which adds 20 litres per second to the Água Branca system (Prefeitura de Ilhabela).

Water quality varies: Cetesb's Sino point was rated unfit for swimming in the bulletins of 23 January 2025, 1 October 2026 and 8 October 2026, and was back to fit in the bulletin of 29 October 2026 (Cetesb). Check the weekly bulletin.
The beach is popular with families, and in high season the sand gets crowded (Prefeitura de Ilhabela). It is also a venue for public celebrations: on New Year's Eve 2023 it hosted a fireworks display, without bangs (Prefeitura de Ilhabela).
