What makes it special
- The beach has 361 metres of sand and two streams, one of which forms a freshwater lagoon, with caiçara houses surrounded by forest (Turismo Ilhabela). It lies outside the channel, so the waves are stronger than on the beaches inside it (Prefeitura de Ilhabela).
- Just before you arrive there is a lookout on the road with no facilities at all: the best view is from a lay-by between two trees, as soon as the beach comes into sight (Prefeitura de Ilhabela).
- The city lists Jabaquara among the best-preserved beaches on the island and among its spots for watching the sunrise (Prefeitura de Ilhabela).
- There are kiosks and restaurants on the sand, mostly on the left-hand side, and the beach gets crowded in high season because several agencies run boat trips there, leaving from the Perequê area (Prefeitura de Ilhabela).
- The municipal school transport runs 4x4 buses on the route to Praia do Jabaquara (Prefeitura de Ilhabela); in 2024, two new 4x4 buses were assigned to pupils of the E.M. Prefeito Leonardo Reale school in Armação who live in Jabaquara, Pacuíba and Furnas (Prefeitura de Ilhabela).
What to weigh
- The Estrada do Jabaquara is unpaved. The city levelled it and laid crushed stone in March 2026 and again in August 2026, as part of its upkeep of the island's dirt roads. In 2017, the head of urban services said that on rainy days the roads of the far north could become impassable and buses stopped serving residents (Prefeitura de Ilhabela). Drive it on a rainy day before you decide.
- There is only one road in: in May 2022, a large tree fell on Avenida Perimetral Norte near number 7,401 and closed access to the Pacuíba and Jabaquara beaches, and Civil Defence had to wait for the power company to switch off the lines before removing it (Prefeitura de Ilhabela).
- It is 22.5 km to the ferry (Prefeitura de Ilhabela) and 17 km to the Vila, the historic centre (Turismo Ilhabela): factor that drive into school runs, shopping and healthcare.
Who it suits
Arvita’s reading, based on the facts above.
- People who want to live away from the bustle, at the end of the road, with forest and open sea around them.
- People who have a car, work from home and do not mind a dirt road every day.
- Buyers who will test the access in the rain and time the drive to the ferry before closing.
